Anita Brown was born in Rafaela, Argentina, on August 8, 1916, and immigrated to New York City around the age of five. A graduate of Hunter College, she studied at the Art Students League in Manhattan. She studied privately over the years with Joseph Solman, a member of the group of painters known as The Ten. She was primarily an oil painter; she worked in other media as well - pen and ink, woodblock, etching, stained glass, watercolor, collage, and knitting. Her work appeared in juried shows in various locations in the New York metropolitan area and private shows at her home. She died at home in Great Neck, New York on February 4, 2007.
